X

Short, one idea each, and the link on its own line. Nothing here needs a thread.

What it is207

There is a website that is just one page of brands, ranked by how much each of them paid to be there. That is the whole product. The top spot costs more every time somebody takes it.

The ratchet215

The top spot on this board can only be taken by beating what the last person paid. It has never been cheaper than it is right now, and that will be true again tomorrow, and it will be worse.

Sabotage230

You can pay to spray graffiti across a competitor's listing. You can pay to break their outbound link. They can pay to clean it off. Somebody in the comments can pay to shield them. This is a real website.

Backing218

Favourite mechanic on this thing: you can put money behind a brand you like, and they decide whether it buys them a better position, a repair, or armour. A listing its own customers keep alive.

The opening nobody can read218

Before it opens you can see exactly who has reserved a spot and never how much they paid, including the leader. No number to beat by a dollar. You just decide what the position is worth to you.

Why anybody watches209

The clever part is that the fighting is the traffic. People come back to see who took the top spot and who got defaced, and that attention is what the brands on it are actually buying.

Anyone can play173

No application, no waitlist, no minimum. A dollar puts you on the board. Whether anybody sees you is a different question and it has an exact price.

The date145

Opens 3 September. One page, sorted by money, and the top spot is never cheaper than it is on the first day of a season.

No algorithm135

No algorithm. No dashboard. No learning phase. One page, and your position on it is whatever you paid, sorted.

How simple it is151

The whole setup: a logo, one line of copy, a link, and an amount. You land where your money lands. That is the entire product.

Nothing hidden147

No quality score. No shadowban. No bidding you cannot audit. Rank is the amount paid, in order, on a page anyone can read.

It is a game too162

Competitors can pay to spray graffiti across your listing. The people who like you can pay to shield it. Both are on the page, in public.

What you get158

The simplest way I have seen to buy traffic: pick an amount, take the rank that amount buys, and watch the clicks it sends in public.

Opening day201

Every time somebody takes rank 01, the floor under it goes up, and it stays up until somebody wins the season. Opening day is the cheapest that spot is going to be for a while.

LinkedIn

Longer, and framed as an idea worth thinking about rather than a thing to go and buy. Line breaks matter here: LinkedIn collapses the rest.

The model672

Someone built a leaderboard where the entire ranking algorithm is one sentence: whoever paid the most is first. No relevance score, no quality score, no auction you cannot audit. Every listing shows what it paid, what rank that bought, how many impressions it has had and how many clicks it sent. All of it public, on the page, next to the brand. The top position can only be taken by paying more than the current holder, so its price only moves in one direction. I do not know whether it works as a business. I do know it is the most legible thing of its kind I have seen in a long time, and legibility is not what this industry is famous for.

Publishing your own numbers503

A paid placement platform that publishes its own traffic dashboard and its payment processor profile, in the footer, next to the terms. The argument is simple: if you sell rank against an impression count, and the only source for that count is you, you are asking to be disbelieved. So every listing carries its impressions and its clicks in public, and the operator's own numbers are open too. Worth a look purely as a piece of positioning, whatever you think of the product.

A genuinely new primitive462

The mechanic I keep thinking about: On this board, anyone can put money into any brand's war chest. The brand decides whether that money becomes a better position, a repair, or protection. So a small company with an audience that actually likes it can be carried up a paid ranking by that audience. The people a brand sells to become the reason it is visible at all. A listing funded by its own customers. I have not seen that before.

The economics623

A pricing mechanic worth studying, whatever you make of the product around it. The top position can only be bought by beating what the last holder paid. Every handover raises the floor, and it stays raised until a season is won. Revenue is the area under that curve, which means smaller minimum increments make far more money than large ones, and large ones make a better headline. The failure state is built in and openly acknowledged: eventually the price exceeds what anyone will pay and the board stops moving, which is what seasons are for. Watching where that lands is the interesting part.

The launch482

Opens on 3 September. Before then it is taking reservations, and the format is unusual: who has reserved is completely public, and what each of them paid is completely hidden, including the leader. You can see exactly who is ahead of you and never by how much. There is no number to beat by a dollar, so the only move available is to decide what the position is actually worth to you. A better mechanism than most launch waitlists, and a more honest one.

Campaign fatigue736

Every small business owner knows this cycle. You set up a campaign. You work through a hundred toggles, a pixel and a bidding strategy. You wait out a learning phase, spend a few hundred dollars, and still cannot predict what reach you will get. Getting seen online became complicated enough to need an agency retainer. A board opening on 3 September throws all of it out: 1. No algorithm deciding who is visible. 2. No hidden auction and no surprise CPM. 3. Your rank is the amount you paid, sorted. 4. Impressions and clicks on every listing, in public. You give it a logo, one line and a link. If you want rank 01, you pay for rank 01. Direct, and legible, which is not what this industry is famous for.

Getting in early504

An unusual rule set, on a board opening on 3 September: 1. A paid amount never goes down. 2. Taking the top spot lifts the floor for everyone who comes after. 3. So the earliest entrants hold the lowest cost basis that position will have all season. That is arithmetic rather than a launch offer. The top spot can only be beaten upward until a season is won, so the first day of a season is the cheapest it will be. Worth a look if you find distribution mechanics interesting.

Opacity781

Paid distribution has one structural problem: you cannot see inside it. You pay for impressions and have no view of the auction, no idea what your placement is really worth, and no explanation when your reach falls off a cliff. A board opening on 3 September takes the opposite approach. Attention, sold to the highest bidder, on a page anybody can read. 1. No gatekeeper and no application. Anyone can list, from a dollar. 2. Every listing shows what it paid, its impressions, its clicks and its backers. 3. The top spot is taken by beating it, so each handover lifts the floor. 4. Brands can pay to deface each other, and to defend each other. Whether you read it as a game or as the plainest placement market anybody has built, it is worth watching.

Cost of acquisition520

Acquisition costs keep climbing and the industry keeps answering with more optimisation tooling. The opposite answer opens on 3 September: rank is the amount paid, in order, and nothing else. 1. No conversion API to wire up. 2. No creative optimisation quietly rewriting your brand. 3. No bidding algorithm spending your money to learn. A position, at a price, with its numbers on the page. Worth ten minutes if paid acquisition is currently a tax on your attention as much as on your budget.

Community as distribution617

Most paid channels put a wall between a brand and the people who like it. You buy an impression, somebody scrolls past, the transaction ends. A board opening on 3 September builds the audience into the mechanic: 1. Anyone can put money behind a brand, and the brand decides whether it becomes rank, repairs or protection. 2. Competitors can pay to deface a listing, on a timer. 3. Owners can clean damage off, or buy protection in advance. Which turns distribution from a line item into something a community can take part in. I have not seen that before and I am curious whether it works.

Facebook

Written the way somebody explains a thing to people who already know them. Longer than X, warmer than LinkedIn.

Explaining it607

Okay, this is a weird one and I like it. It is a single web page of brands. They are ranked by how much each business paid, and that is the only thing deciding the order. Pay more than the one above you and you move above it. The top spot costs more every time somebody takes it, so it only ever gets more expensive. The part that makes it a game: anyone can pay to vandalise somebody else's listing. Spray it, break its link, push it down the page. The target can pay to clean it up, or wait for it to wear off, or somebody else can pay to protect them. It opens on 3 September.

Backing520

The bit of this I actually love: You can put money behind any business on the board. Not into their pocket, into their war chest, and they decide whether to spend it climbing the rankings, repairing damage, or protecting themselves. And that money can never be used to attack anyone. It is built so it cannot be. Which means a small business with customers who actually like them can be carried up a paid leaderboard by those customers. That is a genuinely new idea and I want to see it work.

Asking for support550

A friend of mine is launching something on 3 September and I think it deserves a look. It is one page of brands sorted purely by money, where the top spot ratchets up every time it changes hands, and where you can pay to deface a rival's listing or pay to defend one you like. It is strange, it is honest about being strange, and everything on it is public: what everybody paid, what rank that bought, how many people saw it and how many clicked. If that sounds like your kind of thing, go and have a look before it opens.

The opening nobody can read417

Interesting way to run a launch. Before this thing opens you can see the full list of businesses that have reserved a spot, in order, and you cannot see what a single one of them paid. Not even the leader. So there is no number to beat by a dollar. You just have to decide what being first is worth to you and put that in. It opens on 3 September and everyone goes live at the same moment.

For a small business455

If you run a business you know how frustrating buying attention online has got. You spend money on a boosted post or a campaign, and half the time you have no idea why the reach stopped. There is a board launching on 3 September that takes the algorithm out entirely. No dashboard, no setup. You give it your logo, one line of copy, your website link and an amount. Your position is whatever you spent, and everybody can see it.

The ratchet397

Worth knowing if you are launching anything this year. A board opens on 3 September where the top spot can only be taken by beating what the last person paid. Every handover lifts the floor under it, and it stays lifted until somebody wins the season. Which means the first day is the cheapest that spot will be for the whole season. Not a sale, just how the rule works.

Nothing to install269

No pixel to install. No account to get suspended overnight. No targeting rules to learn. A board opens on 3 September and the whole thing is: pick an amount, take the rank it buys, get the traffic that rank sends. Have a look before it opens.

Everything is public370

Imagine being able to see exactly how many impressions and clicks every other business on a page is getting. That is the idea behind a board opening on 3 September. What everybody paid, what rank it bought, how many people saw it and how many clicked. If you are tired of not being able to see inside the thing you are paying for, have a look.

You do not need a budget270

You do not need a corporate marketing budget to get noticed. On a board opening on 3 September, entry starts at a dollar. Anyone can list, and rank is whatever was paid, in order. No application and no gatekeeper. Spots are being reserved now.

It is fun362

Remember when the internet was strange and experimental and people built things just to see what would happen. A board opening on 3 September is that. A public leaderboard of brands, where you can pay to deface a rival and their customers can pay to defend them, and every number on it is out in the open. Have a look at the countdown.

Launch day262

On 3 September at 10am Pacific, a board goes live. Every reservation made before then reveals its position at the same moment and sets the opening floor. If you want a spot before the doors open, now is the part where that is possible.

Instagram

Captions, written to sit under a screenshot of the board doing something. The first line is the whole job; everything after it is for the people who tapped more.

What it is265

One page of brands, ranked by money. That is the entire product. No application, no waitlist, no minimum. Pay more than the one above you and you are above it. The top spot costs more every single time it changes hands. Opens 3 September.

Sabotage271

You can pay to spray graffiti across somebody else's listing. They can pay to scrub it off. A stranger can pay to shield them. It wears off on its own if they wait, and waiting is always free. This is a real website and it opens on 3 September.

Backing309

A listing that its own customers pay to keep alive. Anyone can put money behind a brand on this board, and the brand decides whether it buys them a better position, repairs, or protection. Small brand with an audience that loves them beats big brand with a budget. That is the idea.

The top spot274

The top spot on this board has never been cheaper than it is today. That is not a sale. It is arithmetic. It can only be taken by beating what the last person paid, so the price only moves one way until somebody wins the season. Opens 3 September.

The board itself212

No algorithm. No dashboard. No guessing. An open leaderboard where rank is the amount paid, in order. Submit a logo. Add one line. Link to your site. Take your rank. Opens 3 September.

Attack and defense259

Distribution just turned into an arena. Competitors can pay to deface a listing with graffiti, a broken link or a blackout. Owners can clean it off, or buy protection in advance. All of it timed. All of it public. Opens 3 September.

Simplicity157

Why is buying attention online harder than filing your taxes. Four fields and a price. That is the whole thing. Opens 3 September.

War chest250

You do not have to climb alone. Every listing has a war chest, and the people who like a brand can put money into it. The brand decides whether it becomes rank, repairs or protection. Backers are named. Attackers never are.

The numbers are public200

No estimated impressions. No formula you cannot check. Every listing shows the impressions and the outbound clicks it has had while its owner has held it. Opens 3 September.

Before it opens288

Before the doors open the brand names are public and not one of the amounts is. You can see exactly who is ahead of you and never by how much. So the only move is to decide what the position is worth to you. Everyone goes live at the same moment on 3 September.

Email

The one place a subject line exists and the one place length is not the enemy. A reader has already agreed to hear from you, so the job is not to hook them in eight words: it is to explain the thing well enough that clicking is an informed decision. The subject copies with the body, because a swipe email without its subject line is the half nobody wants to write.

To your list, explaining it

SubjectA leaderboard where the ranking is just who paid the most

I want to tell you about something that opens on 3 September, because it is the strangest thing I have seen in years and I think you will enjoy watching it. It is one page. On that page is a list of brands, and the list is sorted by how much each of them paid to be there. That is the whole ranking algorithm. No relevance score, no quality score, no auction you cannot audit. Pay more than the listing above you and you are above it. The top position can only be taken by beating what the current holder paid, so its price goes up every time it changes hands and stays up until somebody wins the season. The part that turns it into something worth watching: anyone can pay to deface somebody else's listing. Spray it, break its outbound link, push it down the page. The target can pay to clean it up, or wait for it to wear off, which is always free. Anyone can pay to protect a brand they like, and anyone can put money behind one. Everything is public. What each brand paid, what rank that bought, how many people saw it and how many clicked through. If that sounds like your kind of thing, have a look before it opens.

To a business that might list

SubjectA cheap spot, and a reason people will look at it

Quick one, because I think this is genuinely worth a small budget. A new board opens on 3 September. It is a single page of brands: your logo, your name, one line of copy and a link to your site. Rank is decided by what you paid and nothing else, entry starts at a dollar, and there is no application to fill in. The reason I am sending it to you rather than filing it under gimmick: every listing publishes its impressions and its clicks, in public, next to the brand. You can see what a position delivers before you pay for it, and you can check the traffic against your own analytics afterwards. Very little else in this industry lets you do that. Before it opens you can reserve a position. Who has reserved is public, what each of them paid is hidden until opening day, and everybody goes live at the same moment. Worth ten minutes of your afternoon.

A short one, mid-newsletter

SubjectOne page of brands, ranked by money

Something to keep an eye on: a board of brands sorted purely by how much each business paid, where the top spot costs more every time it changes hands and anyone can pay to deface a rival's listing or defend one they like. Every number on it is public. It opens on 3 September.

Cold, to a founder

SubjectA different way to get distribution

Hello, A question worth a minute: how much did your team spend last month working out somebody else's algorithm, and how much of that turned into anything you could predict. There is a board opening on 3 September that removes the dashboard, the pixel and the bidding entirely. The model is one sentence. It is an open, public leaderboard of brands, rank is the total amount paid in order, and a higher position sends more people to your link. Every listing shows its impressions and its outbound clicks, in public, next to the amount it paid. So you can see what a position delivers before you buy one, and check the traffic against your own analytics afterwards. Spots are being reserved now, ahead of the open. Best, [Your name]

SubjectThe cheapest that spot will be all season

Hello, If you follow marketing experiments, this is worth two minutes. A board opens on 3 September with one unusual rule: the top spot can only be taken by beating what the last holder paid, and every handover lifts the floor under it until somebody wins the season. Which means the first day is the cheapest that position is going to be all season. That is not a countdown trick, it is what the rule does. The rest of it is stranger still. Anyone can pay to deface somebody else's listing, anyone can pay to defend one, and every number on the page is public. Have a look at the mechanics and the countdown. Talk soon, [Your name]

Agency to client

SubjectA new channel worth an early look

Hello [First name], Flagging a channel that is about to open, because early placement on it has a structural advantage rather than a promotional one. It is a public leaderboard of brands where position is decided by the total amount paid and nothing else, and a higher position sends more people to your destination. Because a paid amount never decreases and taking the top spot lifts the floor for everyone after, the earliest entrants hold the lowest cost basis that position will have until a season is won. That is arithmetic rather than a launch offer. Reservations are open ahead of the 3 September launch. Brand names are public before then, and no amount is shown until the doors open. Happy to talk it through. Best, [Your name]

SubjectHave you seen this

Hello [First name], Thought of you when I saw this. Somebody has built a public leaderboard of brands where anyone can list from a dollar, competitors can pay to spray graffiti across your listing, and your own customers can put money behind you to defend it. It is the most interesting distribution mechanic I have seen this year and I genuinely do not know whether it works. It opens on 3 September. Let me know what you make of it. Best, [Your name]

SubjectHelp us take the top spot

Hello everyone, We are taking part in a launch on 3 September. It is a public board where brands are ranked by what they paid for their position, and it has one feature that made us want to be on it: anyone can put money into a listing's war chest, and the brand decides whether that becomes a better position, a repair, or protection. So if you want to see us at the top of it, that is something you can do rather than something to watch. Thank you for being in our corner. Best, [Your name]

Launch day

SubjectThe board is live

Hello, It is open. Every reservation went live at the same moment and set the opening floor. The top spot is taken, the impressions are counting, and every number on the page is public. Whether you want to claim a position or just watch the takeovers and the sabotage happen, it is live now. See you on the board, [Your name]
